Notes from 11/11/11

December 12, 2011

Christian Liberty
. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. “All things are lawful for me”–but not everything is beneficial. “All things are lawful for me”–but I will not be controlled by anything.”
(1 Corinthians 6:10–12 NET)

““Everything is lawful,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is lawful,” but not everything builds others up. Do not seek your own good, but the good of the other person.”
(1 Corinthians 10:23–24 NET)

Liberty is not about you doing whatever you want, it is about you doing what God has called you to do to win/serve others. Before, you were a slave to sin, now you are free, free to serve God. Not free to do anything you want to.

Must ask the question “What is the wise thing to do” just b/c it is not wrong doesn’t mean you should do it.

Eph 5:15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise.
17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.

What do you allow to control your life? Is it the Holy Spirit or is there anything else?
